Safety for Hot Work

Upholding the Highest Safety Standards in High-Risk Industrial Activities

Hot work is one of the highest-risk activities in many industries—particularly in oil & gas, petrochemical, construction, and industrial maintenance sectors. It includes tasks such as welding, cutting, grinding, soldering, and any other operations involving open flames, sparks, or high temperatures.

Why Is Hot Work Dangerous?

Work environments that contain flammable gases, chemical vapors, or combustible materials present a serious risk of fire or explosion during hot work operations. Therefore, strict safety procedures must be implemented and followed to ensure the safety of personnel and assets.

Essential Safety Measures for Hot Work

  1. Hot Work Permit Implementation
All hot work must begin with a properly issued and approved Hot Work Permit. This ensures that the work area has been inspected, prepared, and declared safe for hot work activities.

  2. Work Area Inspection

    • Remove all combustible materials within a minimum 10-meter radius.

    • Use fire-resistant blankets or welding screens to isolate the hot work area.

    • Ensure proper ventilation to eliminate the buildup of hazardous gases or fumes.

  3. Fire Protection and Emergency Readiness

    • Fire extinguishers must be readily available and within easy reach.

    • Emergency response personnel should be on standby throughout the job and during the post-work monitoring phase.

  4. Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Workers must wear complete PPE, including:

    • Welding helmet

    • Heat-resistant gloves

    • Safety goggles or face shields

    • Flame-retardant clothing

    • Safety boots

  5. Gas Detection and Fire Watch
Use gas detectors to confirm there are no flammable vapors or gas leaks present. Assign a trained fire watch to monitor the work area during and after the hot work to prevent ignition sources from spreading.

  6. Regular Safety Training and Evaluation
Conduct routine safety training sessions and emergency drills to ensure that all personnel are well-informed and prepared to follow hot work safety procedures.

Our Commitment to Safety

At PT Elbema Integra Indonesia, we are strongly committed to maintaining the highest safety standards for every project we undertake especially those involving high-risk hot work operations. Our field technicians are fully trained and certified, and they operate with modern equipment under strict safety supervision.
